Humor vs Comedy vs Jokes: A spark note

When people are asked what’s the most important material they look for in an ideal partner, most of them mention “sense of humor”. Now what is a sense of humor and why is it so important?

The word Humor, as defined by Random House Dictionary, means a comic, absurd, or incongruous quality causing amusement. To better understand what is humor, let’s compare the other words most people relate to humor – comedy and jokes.

Humor is anything that causes amusement whereas a Joke is something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement. All jokes are comedy, and all comedy is humor, but not all humor is comedy, and certainly not all jokes.

The important thing to remember is that humor in its many forms is beneficial to our daily life. In whatever form it may come it makes our life more enjoyable. It motivates us to keep on going. It creates a balance between our physical and mental well-being.

Next time you crack a joke or share a pun don’t feel guilty! you are making someone’s day!
